'A Special Kind of Vision' is a landmark development for Indigenous artists of the Northern Rivers region in the eastern coast of Australia. In stunning full colour, the book provides a fascinating insight into contemporary Aboriginal arts practice.
In 2008, Indigenous Arts Development Officer, Frances Belle Parker of Arts Northern Rivers toured the region with a journalist and professional photographer meeting with as many practising artists as possible and recording their stories. Almost 80 local artists took part and 26 were selected for inclusion in 'A Special Kind of Vision'.
The book has an introductory essay by leading Indigenous art curator Djon Mundine OAM.
The research was funded by the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA).
